Jonathan Kagan

is an engineering IP specialist, with expertise in the fields of mechanical and electrical devices, software, and optics. Jonathan received his degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and has 15 years of experience as a patent specialist, preparing patent applications as well as performing searches for patentability and freedom-to-operate.

He began his career with six years as a systems engineer at IBM, where he was responsible for designing and integrating hardware-software solutions for enterprise clients. His systems engineering work emphasized cross-disciplinary problem solving and lifecycle design integration across complex platforms.

Following his time at IBM, Jonathan worked in R&D across a range of industries, including advanced photovoltaic development, supercomputing processing, and machine vision.

His patent experience spans a wide array of technologies, including semiconductor devices, optical systems, power electronics, wireless communication protocols, control systems, and embedded software. He has supported clients ranging from early-stage startups to multinational corporations, helping align IP strategies with technical roadmaps and commercial goals. Jonathan also has extensive experience in analyzing prior art and drafting responses to office actions in both U.S. and international patent offices.
